lyrics

Jan

Jan picked a tuberose and placed it in the palm of her hand.
Jan tried to take that tuberose, return it to the land.
Jan dug a hole in earnest, tried to understand
Concepts that really do transcend her feeble command
Minutiae decidedly grand
The ratio of earth to sand

Jan picked calendula and hid it in the chamomile
Maxwell, her trusted feline surveyed and privately smiled
Lazy daisies wagged their heads and soaked up sunshine all the while.
Jan checked her watch, picked up her phone and methodically dialled.
Her lover managed time like a child
The time was ripe to be defiled.

Jan took off her leathers, put down her whip and saw the garden outside
She noticed that the afternoon’s transplant had gone awry
Further, calendula had withered in the sun and quickly died.
Still, she reflected on her day and heaved a sigh
Turned to her lover with pride
“If I called today a waste, it’d be a lie…”
